Horses can give you immense joy, they are a loyal companion. Horses have been one of our favourite animals for years. In world war one, Britain and Germany had a cavalry force that numbered around 100,000 men. Each cavalry had a large number of horses, most senior military personnel believed in the supremacy of a cavalry attack.

Horses were in high demand back then, to meet the demand Britain started to import horses from America and New Zealand. One million horses came from America at the cost of 67.5 million pounds. Germany had a better plan; they started many breeding programmes in the anticipation of war. The horses had to be registered every year just like the army reservists.

World war one brought forward many extraordinary stories from people that were involved and present at the battlefields. One of the stories that have come forward are of a young boy’s quest to find his horse who had been taken to the front line. The war horse London theatre has a war horse show that will deeply move you.

The war horse London theatre tickets are reasonably priced, so they could make a great gift this Christmas.

Horses have amazing benefits for the keeper such as:

  • There are physical benefits for people of all ages. Equine activities require physical activity whether it is grooming a horse, lifting a saddle or simply walking out to the barn. This is helpful for people that don’t get much exercise.
  • There are many mental benefits to equine activities, people with mental health problems have seen their mood dramatically lifted. They also provide stress reduction and help you socially.
  • In this busy world that we live in, we always need a day to day stress outlet. Physical exercise is recognised as a mediator of stress. There is a meditative quality to grooming or working on your horse that can be similar to meditation.
It is very important to protect your horse as it is your responsibility. Freshly cut grass can be dangerous for horses because:
  • When your horse grazes naturally, it will tear the grass with its teeth and slowly chew as it walks around. With cut grass, it is clumped in rows or piles, you horse will avoid the natural grazing steps. The horse will be prone to eating the grass really quickly, it can get lodged in its throat and cause a condition called choke.
  • Lawns are not planted with the nutritional needs for a horse, they are also not maintained for the horse. The lawn weeds and fertilization practice can be toxic to the horse making them severely ill.
  • If your horse eats the grass clippings too fast it will not be using the grazing process. This will upset the normal fermentation process that can lead on to problems of the digestive system and can cause colic in the horse.
