Musicals have enjoyed immense popularity in London for over 100 years, with the West End at the centre of theatre culture. While some of the best West End musicals have been running for decades, others come and go, making them exciting to catch during a limited run. This summer, you can expect a fabulous lineup of new and returning musicals, both on and off-West End. Let’s take a look at them.
Menier Chocolate Factory, 29 May - 28 June 2025
In this bold exploration of identity, award-winner Anoushka Lucas stars in a critically acclaimed production of her debut show, Elephant. As a child, Lylah was expected to be good, not ask questions and keep her head down. Then a piano fell through the sky and landed in her council flat - and she fell in love. Now an adult, Lylah is swept up by a new romance and the promise of a music career. But something doesn’t feel right and she turns to her piano for answers. Where did it come from and why is it here?
Eventim Apollo, 18 July - 30 August 2025
The smash-hit musical, 101 Dalmatians, is coming to London for a limited summer run, sweeping adults and kids up into a whirlwind adventure. When the stylish and self-obsessed Cruella De Vil steals a brood of Dalmatian puppies, their parents - Pongo and Perdi - know they have to rush to the rescue before the pups get turned into a fur coat. With spectacular puppetry, show-stopping choreography and a host of toe-tapping songs, this canine caper is fun for all the family.
London Palladium, 14 June - 6 September 2025
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s smash hit musical Evita is returning to the West End this summer for 12 weeks only. Fuelled by ambition and passion, a young Eva Perón seeks a better life for herself, rising from poverty to become the most powerful woman in Latin America. As the First Lady of Argentina, she is a symbol of hope to the people of her country - but her dreams are cut short by a devastating illness. This standout production is directed by Jamie Lloyd and features the musical’s iconic score, with hits including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What a Circus and You Must Love Me. As one of the most popular of all West End shows, it’s a must-see.
Garrick Theatre, 30 August 2025 - 21 February 2026
The end of the summer sees the return of Mel Brooks’ musical adaptation of The Producers. In the show’s first major London revival, new audiences have the chance to meet Max Bialystock and his accountant Leo Bloom as they set out to create the biggest flop in theatre history. The trouble is, with a cast of flamboyant characters the show ends up being a hit, and now the tax man might find out. This twelve-time Tony winner is a furiously fun caper for those who love their humour with an outlandish and controversial twist.
