What is the Enchanted Woodland?

For the last three weekends in November, the Syon Park Enchanted Woodland experience is back. Set in 600 year old parkland and running from 11-27 November, this spectacular event sees the arboretum lit up in an array of dazzling colours, which visitors can explore by following the designated trail.

The mile-long path meanders through the arboretum and around the lake, taking you past illuminated sculptures, glowing candles, high-tech lasers and more, with the 16th century Syon House providing an imposing backdrop. You can expect the walk to take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how carried away the kids get, and you’ll finish up at the magnificent Great Conservatory with its ornate design and impressive glass dome.

When you’re done, you can warm up and refresh yourselves in the vibrant pop-up food village, where you’ll find a range of hot and cold food and drinks, from delicious mulled wine, tea and hot chocolate to pizza, bao buns and churros.

The Enchanted Woodland runs on weekends only, from Friday to Sunday, and there are nine time slots available per day, running between 5pm and 7.40pm. It’s always a sell-out event, so don’t miss out – book your tickets today!

What’s the Enchanted Woodland about?

The Enchanted Woodland is described as ‘resolutely and unapologetically about trees’. With some 400 species of tree in the park, including many rare and unusual specimens, it’s a fascinating way to appreciate these giants and their contribution to our ecosystem. Among the more interesting examples are the Wing Nut, Turkish Hazel, American Sweetgum, Hungarian Oak and Golden Rain Tree. Keep an eye out for bats flitting between the branches too!

All proceeds from the event are re-invested into the gardens and Great Conservatory, ensuring that Syon Park can be appreciated by visitors all year round. Recent years have seen the tarmac paths around the lake resurfaced, which makes access for buggies and wheelchairs easier, and on restoring historic elements of the Great Conservatory.

Where is the Enchanted Woodland?

Syon Park is located in Brentford, across the river from the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew. Travel by public transport is advised, but there is limited parking available for free. Those arriving by foot or bicycle can use the pedestrian entrance opposite Majestic Wines.
